Can You Take a Holiday Horse Owners.. Can You Take a Holiday?
Added on Tue 7 Feb 2017

Can You Take a Holiday

Have you had to knock back a holiday or weekend away because there was no-one to look after your horses? Well, it happened to me and is how the idea for Horse Nannies International was conceived.

My neighbour needed to take an overseas trip at the same time I was booked for a holiday. Normally, we cared for each other’s horses but now both faced the dilemma of who was going to care for them with us both away?

Despite having a large network of horse friends, they were either also away or too busy to add the care of our horses to their schedule. So I put up a post on Facebook asking if there were any reliable, experienced horse people around to visit our properties twice a day and feed and care for a total of five horses. The trouble with this method was I had people reply I knew to be less than competent and now they were going to be offended when I said NO.

Whilst I was pondering my problem, someone suggested I look at a house/pet minding website for a suitable person. What I found on the site were lots of dog and cat people but no horse people. One gentleman had looked after cattle and therefore thought he could handle horses, but this wasn’t what I had in mind. I needed a horse person!

Horse Owners Care Choices for Horse Owners

It was then I had my lightbulb moment! Facebook may not have solved my problem by finding me a suitable horse sitter directly, but it had been a wonderful platform for my horse cartoons page which now had over 250,000 horse people following. Could Funny Horse Cartoons help connect horse people and provide the connection between horse owners and horse carers? Whilst my cartoons were light-hearted, I very much realised horse care is very serious, so a serious and comprehensive website was required. One that could ask the right questions concerning horses and give horse owners some choices.

So late 2016 Horse Nannies came together to offer horse people the advantages of;

  • Advertising or browsing for a suitable person alleviating the need to impose on friends
    (or offend an acquaintance).
  • A message system that also included a duties list which could be ticked off as each task was completed. This list would then be sent to the horse owner for peace of mind.
  • A place where horse people could earn money to help pay for their own horse habit or even start/promote their own horse business.
  • A system with downloadable documents, suggestions (such as background checks) to help horse owners make the right decision.
  • Blogs, horse care tips and a general meeting place for horse people.

New But Growing

Of course like all new services, Horse Nannies will take time to cover all regions but the feedback has been tremendous with new people coming on board every day. What we envisage is the day when all horse people are able to access other caring horse people, quickly and easily. This is why we are reaching out and saying PLEASE JOIN US FOR FREE! Even if you don’t have a need right now, start making the connections so the next trip away is HORSE CARE WORRY FREE

Loved reading your article. It is hard to find the right person as I know full well. Do you cover Carmarthenshire? If so it would be useful for future reference. If you could kindly respond by text/message as computer down at present. Look forward to hearing from you

I am very grateful to find your site. I recently moved my 2 horses to our home. Tired of paying someone's mortgage when I knew I could do it myself. I am on a perpetual vacation and realized I needed to find a place to move my guys for a week at a time or find the right person/people to come to my place. Then the LIGHTBULB moment. Since I dont work (never did) I thought if how awesome it would be to help others in my situation AND find the right person/people for my needs as well, by starting a business. But OMG WHERE do I begin? HOW much do I charge? WHAT do I do? And then I found you. I've only been in your page for 15 minutes so far but I'm confident that I found a mentor. Thanks for YOU....I cant wait to dive in to your page, site, newsletters, advice and practices. Again Thank You
Calming Supplement for Horse - 1st Feb 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the challenges and joys of being a dedicated horse owner, and the post certainly got me thinking about the well-being of our equine companions during holiday seasons. While the article didn't touch on the subject, envisioning a section dedicated to calming supplement for horse at equine care facilities during holiday periods sparked my imagination. Imagine a thoughtful assortment of specially formulated feeds designed to provide a sense of calm and comfort for our four-legged friends while their owners take a well-deserved break. It could be a game-changer, ensuring that both horses and owners enjoy a peaceful holiday season. Kudos to all the horse owners for their commitment, and here's to innovative ideas that enhance the holiday experience for our beloved equine friends!
